Possible to run a clean Windows installation on a 2008 iMac?

I have an old (late) 2008 iMac 8.1 and now find that the system is so far behind the latest that I've given up on mac osx. Is it possible to run a clean fresh new installation of window 10 without using bootcamp? I hav=te Linux and MS, but i'm running out of option as I cant afford a new MAC!

Windows, Windows 10

If the iMac has 4GB of RAM and the hard drive is still good (a big "IF"), then Linux will run fine on it. Linux Mint should be easy to install and just work as should the Ubuntu flavors such as Kubuntu or Ubuntu Mate (the default Ubuntu with the Gnome desktop really requires a more powerful system and more memory). Other Linux distributions should also work, but I don't know how easy they will install & just work.
