iTunes won't reinstall, uninstaller is gone, bonjour gone, windows app store thinks it's still there - Win10

Hi all,

Don't mean to be a whiner, but I just spent 4 hours trying to get itunes back working on my Windows 10 computer after it got buggered up.

And it seems most links that google comes up with for the problem either don't work when I follow their directions, or they just want to point fingers at Windows "go talk to windows, it's there problem" instead of their lame installer software that doesn't have the smarts to just (re)install the friggin' program if everything isn't just perfect.

Having followed the resulting internet solutions for this problem, i.e., "if your uninstaller didn't do it to the satisfaction of the itunes installer and it refuses to install it, you have to delete all these folders and apps in exactly the following order (most of which were already gone), and then you will be able to install itunes". But it STILL won't install.

There is apparently something in the registry or wherever that makes the "Microsoft store" and the apple itunes installer say itunes isn't uninstalled. And the itunes installer keeps saying I have to uninstall itunes before I can (re)install it. Argh!! So where is it so I can remove it and just get itunes working again??

Jeez, isn't there a "clean up the registry so you can do a fresh install" program out there? Or some instructions that go into what else I need to do so I can just reinstall itunes?

I have bought and use 10 Apple devices (4 iphones, 4 ipods, and 2 ipads), and I can't believe how hard it is to just get my itunes back up and running on Windows 10 to service them?

I seriously doubt I am the first user to have this problem. Does ANYONE know how to work around this goofy reinstall business?

Thanks for any help you may suggest.

For general advice see Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates.

The steps in the second box are a guide to removing everything related to iTunes and then rebuilding it which is often a good starting point unless the symptoms indicate a more specific approach. When reinstalling right click on the downloaded setup file and use run as administrator. It may also help to temporarily disable any non-Microsoft anti-virus.

Review the other boxes and the list of support documents further down the page in case one of them applies.

The further information area has direct links to the current and recent builds in case you have problems downloading, or want to revert to an older version if the current one won't work properly for you at the moment. Links to the most recent builds are now at the bottom of the page.

Your library and device backups should be unaffected by these steps but there are links to backup and recovery advice should it be needed.

Hi TurintTest2.

Well I did all the stuff fromyour detailed page, but I keep getting stuck with a dialog that says at least one user downloaded itunes from MS Store, and they have to remove it before ...

I am the only user on my computer, and I tried opening the itunes installers from apple using WinRAR, and trying to run various .msi stuff to install, remove, repair etc.. It is just not working. I will never download another program from the MS store - I thought that was supposed to be less prone to problems!!

Any ideas about how to get this stuff out of the registry? I did the search for itunes suggestion and it didn't find anything.

Really screwy.

Thanks for any other ideas you may have...
