Red light blinking on and off at top of iPhone XR while discord voice calling my boyfriend?

Why would the top of my iPhone XR have a red light blinking as I’m voice calling my boyfriend on discord? I’ve never seen it before then. And even when voice calling in the past I either never saw that or didn’t notice.
