I bought a new iPad and it keeps getting hot after about half hour use. Why does this happen?

An iPad will become warm in use, particularly so if the screen brightness is high or you are using CPU and/or graphics intensive Apps such as some games. If your iPad is inside a protective case, this can also contribute to the iPad becoming warm.

Whilst the iPad may become very warm, it should not be too warm to hold. If the iPad becomes uncomfortably hot, then it may need to be assessed. Such assessment is best carried out at an Apple Store - where you can demonstrate your use of the iPad and its behaviour. The technicians at the Genius Bar can test and assess as necessary - and provide appropriate advice.

If your iPad becomes very hot, you should stop using it until it has been seen and tested by an appropriate Apple technician. You might also directly contact Apple Support for advice; you’ll find the Contact Support Link at top-right of this page. Alternatively, you might initiate a support case using the excellent Apple Support App:
