Cursor placement issues with previous update
last update made it difficult to insert cursor at a specific place in a word (instead it highlights the whole word); does the new update fix this?

Have you tried this trackpad technique? Change Keyboard as Trackpad to move insertion point (Cursor).
Press and Hold the spacebar and move your fingers!
