iPhone 6s no sound, says connected to headphones

iPhone 6s says it is connected to headphones but it is not. Sound works if I use bluetooth but no sound will play from headset. Says headphones are connected but none are connected. I have updated software, reset to original settings, and tried other things like plugging in headphones and turning phone off etc. Please advise how I can remedy this sudden onset issue.
