I am trying to add some old pics I found to my photos library so they are on my iPhone. When I add them to Photo by either airdrop or copying into iCloud, they show up first in my recent folder even though the photo date is 2010. Is there any way to change the Recent folder from date added to the actual date of the pic?

No, the Recents album is meant to be sorted by the date you added the photo, so you will always find the most recently added photos at the bottom of this album. If you want to see the photos sorted by the date they have been taken, view them in the All Photos album or the Days.
Photos is offering you the albums with a different sort order for each album, and we are supposed to use the album that is sorted as we want the photos to be sorted, rather than offering just one album an allowing us to sort it.
