how much does it cost to replace a key?

My up arrow button fell off my keyboard and as I was trying to put it back on myself from watching YouTube videos, I accidentally broke the butterfly hinge. Before I buy a new key, I was wondering how much it cost to take it to apple and ask them to replace that one key? Or if it would cost anything if I bought a key on my own and simply asked them to put it on? (I don’t have warranty)

There was mention of a Mac portable keyboard replacement, article here;

not certain of what detail may apply to your specific build model issue:

• Keyboard Service Program for MacBook, MacBook Air, and MacBook Pro - Apple Support

https://support.apple.com/keyboard-service-program-for-mac-notebooks

Some third-party sites may show certain keys that could (or not) be replaced

by an end-user or acquired from their site for independent repairs. Look here:

• Apple Macbook Air Replacement Keys | Keyboard Keys | Keypad Keys

https://www.replacementlaptopkeys.com/macbook-air/

These kinds of key replacement often include small wear items; however

each has whatever parts for each key face and underneath parts in sets.

Includes key part images, & on-site video to show how these are replaced.

Worth at least some effort to determine which key parts and how they work.

• Apple Repair and Repair Status Check - Apple Support

https://support.apple.com/repair

You may see if the repair can be mailed in for correct service.

They could offer to send you a return box, in some instances.

Take care & good luck!🌞🎣
