Storage space question

If I keep adding files to Documents under iCloud Drive, does that take space of my computer hard drive also?

Yes. The iCloud Drive is a syncing service and not an off-computer storage facility. Any file on the iCloud Drive is mirrored on your boot drive so you can access it even if you don't have an internet connection. Delete a file on the iCloud Drive and it's deleted from it's corresponding space on your boot drive.
