Im not sure if this is due to the latest MacOS update - but all of a sudden all my HEIC photos that I've imported into Photos have now got JPG versions of themselves!
Does anybody know why this may be and how I can get rid of the JPG versions and stop this happening in the future? Its VERY annoying as it just clutters up my library unnecessary. Something seems broken :-/

Which system version do you have currently installed, Nick? Are you using Photos on more than one device?

files that have imported via file stream only come as jpg and duplicate when imported by usb
i think I’m going to have to turn file stream off I’m this case as it’s very counter productive ending up with so many duplicate files! :(

im using Catalina 10.15.6 (just updated latest update today). I imported my photos from my iPhone 8 running the latest software on that too. I do use photo stream so it probably had those in the library before Imported.
Ive always had the 'keep originals' option on my phone and done use the iCloud library (never have).
Strangely - I don't seem to be able to find the files within the Photos package if I search for them - has the 'goto file location' option been removed now?
im doubly confused now though, as the My Photo Stream section displays only HEICs with Live Photo data whilst the JPGS done have any Live Photo data even though I have the 'keep originals' option checked. Which should I delete?!

You could do that in iPhoto, but never in Photos. And it would be of no use. Photos 5 on macOS Catalina is renaming the originals with unique hexadecimal codes. Yo will not be able to recognise the files inside the library package by the filename. How Photos 5.0 on Catalina Manages original Files and Filenames
I would not use My Photo Stream any longer, at least not with a modern iPhone that is using image and video formats not supported by My Photo Stream. It is just an added complication.
ok. Im confused now though. I thought it was to do with the double import by Photo Stream and USB import, but if I go to either the latest import section of Photo stream, both only display the HEIC files...
in that other post I linked, you suggested a smart album to delete to the HEICS, but are the HEICs not the originals? They contain all the Live data don't they? I think what I need is probably a way of deleting the duplicated JPG files...
