Sales tax

Does anyone know if I have to pay the state sales tax at the Apple physical store as well? Is it the same price as it's online? I'm looking forward to buy an iPhone 11 in New Jersey.

Yes, sales tax is charged for any purchase. There is a difference, however; if you buy in a store you pay the sales tax for the location of the store, if you buy online you pay the sales tax for the address the purchase is shipped to.

There are around 4,000 different taxing jurisdictions in the US. Sales tax can include state, county and municipality contributions.

So either online and physical stores have the sales tax?

Um, check with an accountant, or (better) check the purchase prices directly with Apple.

In the US, all stores collect the appropriate local sales taxes (if any) for the location of the store, while shipped products and sometimes shipping fees can or will involve the collection of sales tax appropriate both for the receiving address and with consideration for the physical locations (“nexuses”) of the seller.

Mode of carriage of the shipment can get involved here, shipping costs too, and local governments in some places can and do have sales taxes as was mentioned.

There are ~five states with no state sales tax. New Jersey is not one. Apple may or may not have a “nexus” in all states.

There are also country-level and warranty coverage considerations here, depending on exactly what will be happening here.
