icloud backup

I have just bought 50GB of storage in icloud but when I log into icloud on windows, my photos are not there. They are in non-chronological order and only some are there.

I am unsure how to initiate a backup of all my pictures.

I 2536 photos in my album on my phone but only 419 photos backed up onto icloud.

On my phone the setting for backup is on.

So you say that you have about 2500+ photos on your iPhone, but only 400+ of them on your Windows PC - iCloud Folder.

This means one or both these things are not happening:

  1. the photos are not being uploaded from your iPhone to iCloud Server or
  2. the photos are not being downloaded from iCloud Server to your Windows PC

Let us first check if step 1 is happening: goto a web browser on your PC and goto the website www.icloud.com, Sign-in using your iCloud Apple ID. Then check your photos. Are all your 2500+ photos there?

If yes, then we can go to step 2. If not, then please recheck the settings for iCloud on your iPhone. Do this:

Store your photos and videos in iCloud

Your photos and videos are stored on your device in their original, high-resolution version. This means that they use a lot of space on your iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch. With iCloud Photos, you can make more space available on your device and have your entire collection, everywhere you go.

Get started with iCloud Photos:

  1. Tap Settings > [your name] > iCloud > Photos.
  2. Turn on iCloud Photos.
  3. Select Optimize iPhone Storage to save space on your device.

With Optimize Storage, smaller, space-saving photos and videos are kept on your device while all of your original, full-resolution versions are stored in iCloud. And as long as you have enough space in iCloud, you can store as many photos and videos as you want.

So it seems like you're out of iCloud space and that's why you're photos are no longer uploading.

What are you saving in iCloud for 50 GB to be used up? I mean it is normal to use 50GB or even more - but it depends on what and how much data you're saving there. If you're not sure, read this article to find out and manage iCloud storage.

If you can make space on iCloud, that is in general a good thing.

Manage your iCloud storage - Apple Support

Make more space available in iCloud

If you run out of iCloud storage, your device won’t back up to iCloud, new photos and videos won't upload to iCloud Photos, and iCloud Drive, other iCloud apps, and text messages won't stay up to date across your devices. And you can't send or receive emails with your iCloud email address.

You can free up storage in iCloud by deleting content that you're not using:

Before you delete anything, you might want to archive or make copies of the information you store in iCloud.

Okay, so you do not see your 2500+ photos on the iCloud.com website, which means that they have not been uploaded yet from your iPhone.

On your iPhone, you state that you've turned ON iCloud Photos.

(When you turn on iCloud Photos, the time it takes for your photos and videos to upload to iCloud depends on the size of your collection and your Internet speed. If you have a large collection of photos and videos, your upload might take more time than usual.)

You can see the status.

Open the Photos app, go to the Photos tab, and scroll to the bottom of your screen. See example below! Let us know what is the status!
