When I am connecting my G-Tech external HDD, provided with a single USB 3.1 port (USB-C connector port) to my MacBook Pro (mid 2015) Thunderbolt 2 port, using an original USB-C to Thunderbolt 2 adaptor cable, my Mac won't find the HDD.
However if I connect the HDD to my Mac using a USB-C - USB A cable, it works fine, but terrible speed.
What can I do?

Verify you are using an Apple branded adapter.

I would use what works.
Sure, thats what I use today, with a 25mbs speed.
But as backing up my 500Gb internal takes.... forever, I still think it’s a good idea to utilize the close to 185mbs speed this setup are supposed to offer.
