Connection type for external drive on MacBook Pro

Is a USB C adapter needed to connect an external HD to a new MacBook Pro ?

It depends on the cable you have for the external HD. If it is a USB-C cable, not adapter is needed. If it is a USB cable then see: USB-C to USB Adapter - Apple
