I drive a motorcycle. There are times I need to get directions somewhere, like home, but Siri won't provide them unless the phone is unlocked. Obviously unlocking while driving a bike at 60mph is out of the question. So how do I make sure Siri will give me the navigation I need while driving?
In Siri & Search on your iPhone, enable Hey Siri, maybe enable the side button, and enable Allow Siri When Locked.
Far better is likely going to be an integrated communications system, such as the CarPlay systems now available.

This is massively unhelpful. Nothing in this article pertains to using Siri to start navigation. The first step is to open Maps, which presupposes the phone is unlocked.
This is so typical of the customer experience with Apple: a problem is stated clearly, and the response ignores the problem entirely. It is so frustrating.
For anyone else who wants to help the problem is simple: how do you use Siri to get directions somewhere without having to unlock the phone. Assume the phone is locked at the start, and accessing the phone in any manner other than "hey, Siri" is not an acceptable start point.
Siri is already enabled for when the phone is locked.
Buying a new vehicle or helmet with CarPlay isn't an option.
There's got to be a way to allow navigation when the phone is locked. I swear this used to work but now doesn't.
