Apple Watch Series 3 Keeps Turning Off When Unplugged

A couple of days ago, I noticed my Apple Watch acting rather peculiarly.

I had unplugged it from its charger, where it had stayed for a couple of months as I had no need for it during the COVID-19 quarantine, and I noticed that only a couple of minutes after unplugging it, it simply shut off.

At first, I thought it may have been a software issue, but my watch is running the latest update (6.2.8), and not many other individuals seem to be experiencing this, as I have discovered while searching for answers in the Community Discussions.

I then proceeded to reset it-- twice. The first time, I used the saved backup whereas the second time I set it up as a new watch. The issue persisted.

Whenever I restart the watch/ reboot it without plugging it back in, there is a red lightning bolt, indicating very low battery but as soon as I plug it in, the bolt turns green and the watch starts up almost immediately... 100% battery it tells me...

I do not wish to go to get the hardware checked because I am quite certain this was not caused by any physical damage to the watch-- everything else works perfectly.

Does anyone know how to fix this? Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks!

FYI: I did find one other discussion about this, but none of the suggested solutions worked for me...

Hi JA-N-A,

It sounds like you are unable to use your Apple Watch because it keeps unexpectedly powering off or saying the battery is low. We can help get you pointed in the right direction for support.

Based on what you are describing, and the troubleshooting you've already taken, this sounds like it might be an issue with the hardware. We'd recommend contacting us directly to ensure you have all the available options. You can get started here: Get Support

It seems a lot of us are experiencing this. I took mine into the store they took it out back, returned it & said everything ok. Never gave an explanation as what was wrong. Well walking around the centre within an hour gone again. Took it back & basically seeing as warranty is over ( 2 1/2 years old) they said nothing they could do. I have sent a stinking email but I am sure they know about the problem but basically don’t care 🙈🙈. Let’s hope everyone who has a problem let Apple know & they will have to sort it. Not fit for purpose in my mind now & certainly should last longer than 2.5 years.
