HI, loverofcars,

If you ever had iMovie 10 on your computer before, even if you deleted it, try using this procedure to download the most current version of iMovie that El Capitan will run. I believe that that would be iMovie 10.1.6.

To

update/redownload iMovie 10, drag your iMovie 10 app from the Applications folder into the trash, but do not empty the trash. (You can skip that step if you had iMovie 10 on your computer before, but deleted it.) Sign in to the app store and open your purchases folder by clicking on your name at the bottom of the app store side bar. (NOTE: For El Capitan and older, click on the Purchases tab at the top of the app store screen and then sign in. Click on Purchases again to reveal your purchases.)  You

will see your purchases displayed, including iMovie 10. Redownload/update iMovie from there. If not successful, drag your present iMovie app out of the trash (if you moved it there) and return it to the Applications folder.

I would try the procedure I provided above just in case. Won't hurt.

If your brother by chance has installation discs from when he bought the computer, you might be able to download iMovie 6 or other version of iMovie from the discs. iMovie 6 is an older, discontinued, app but is still excellent.

Another possibility is to search Amazon or Ebay for a download of the iLife 6 package where you could get iMovie 6.

If you can upgrade to Mojave 10.14.6 then you could download from the app store the current version of iMovie.
