Is it possible to add an AT&T account to Mail?

I am trying to add my AT&T email to the Mail program. I am not sure if I can do this, but these are the steps that I took to try to get it to work. I went to Add account. Clicked on Other. Entered my email address and password. Clicked on Sign in. Waited a few seconds and then under the password field this error message appeared in red: Unable to verify account name or password. I verified that the email and password were correct by signing in to my account on AT&T's website. Is it possible to add an AT&T account to Mail somehow or is it something that Mail can not do?

I ended up speaking with Apple Support and they had me to set it up as a Yahoo account since Yahoo took over taking care of AT&T's email and that worked like a charm. Now I am getting my email from AT&T. You can do the same thing with your Yahoo account even if you are using a free Yahoo account, unlike before where you had to pay for your Yahoo account to be able to use an email program to get your email from your Yahoo account. Just thought that since I received my answer I would share.

Hi, welcome to the Apple Users Community.

This came from the AT&T website:

  1. Select Preferences > Account Information.
  2. Choose your mail account.
  3. Select POP3 or IMAP.
  4. Confirm User name.
  5. Enter your password or secure mail key.
  6. Confirm or enter the following settings:
    • Incoming Mail Server - inbound.att.net (POP3) or imap.mail.att.net (IMAP)
    • Outgoing Mail Server - outbound.att.net (POP3) or smtp.mail.att.net (IMAP)
  1. In Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP), choose Edit SMTP Server List.
  2. Confirm:
    • Server Name - outbound.att.net or smtp.mail.att.net.
    • Use default ports - 25465587.
    • Use Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) is selected.
  1. Select OK
  2. On Advanced tab, confirm:
    • SSL checkbox is selected.
    • Authentication field is set for Password.
  1. Close window.

Copied so please excuse the poor formatting of the lists, hope this helps,

Best of luck

Thank you for your reply. Unfortunately I can not use them completely because they are intended to be used after the account has been added to Apple Mail and I am unable to add the account to Apple Mail in the first place, but it gave me a few things to try. I forgot that it did come up and let me put in the account type incoming & outgoing mail server and user name. I tried all of the combinations that I could think of for those fields and unfortunately still received the same error message. I tried looking on AT&T's website for assistance but when I put in "Other Mail", "Apple Mail", "Other Email", "Apple Email" or "Email Program" the support search did not return any results remotely useful. So I am back at square one.

Is it possible to add an AT&T account to Mail?
