Question:Q: Macintosh Performa 600 power supply hummimng faintly
I have a Macintosh Performa 600. It doesn't turn on at all. But the power supply makes a faint noise. Is this a bad sign? I also replaced the PRAM batter. And nothing.

A remote diagnosis is always difficult. A sound from a power supply could come from the fan, a transformer, or possibly something else. Bad capacitors in old power supplies can cause problems. In order to judge whether a power supply is OK or not, a technician would have to measure DC output voltages at various points. For safety reasons, do not open a power supply!
Any other sounds or lights?

An electrolytic capacitor that has not been in use for some time may become reformed to a certain degree when a voltage is (re)applied. This does not mean that one can expect the capacitor to be OK. Electrolytic capacitors may also be bulging/leaking, and could crack, explode, or cause a short circuit. Never leave old electronic equipment unattended. Switch off and disconnect when not in use. If suspected faulty, do not use at all.
lol. I got it to turn on. The Motherboard at least turns on and boots up. There was a working hard drive! It booted right up! But I think when I leave it unplugged it dose t turn on. Me, and other people on Reddit think the caps have gone bad, unfortunately I don’t know how to solder, but if someone where to recap it, or fix it, then it would work! There is hope! The caps have gone bad on my Mac Classic. I’ve heard this is very common.but when I keep it plugged into the wall it seems to turn on every time, maybe it keeps the charge in the caps???
I want to keep it running as long as possible.
