It depends if it is a manufacturing defect or not.

The tech will check, and see if it is covered by warranty or not.

That depends when you purchased it, you can purchase a new iPhone 7 from an authorized retailer, just not from apple.

Just looked it up I can purchase one online right now if I want.

In any case what @QuickTimeKirk is trying to say is that the warranty is valid for 1 year after you purchased it brand new from an authorized retailer.

He has been told this before, it does not apparently sink in. And if they purchased AppleCare + it would be two years but it does not sound like they did.

An iPhone 7 doesn't have any valid warranty.
