Macbook Air losing WiFi after lid is shut

My Macbook Air keeps losing WiFi connectivity after the lid is shut. I've tried every fix I can find but nothing works except many restarts and entering the WPA2 password multiple times and eventually it might decide to connect. Today it has connected a couple of times but no websites will load. It can't be the router as I'm using my MacBook Pro no problem.

I need to get this working NOW as my son has Zoom classes soon and I need my other laptop for work.

I would try making a new network location profile to give yourself a clean slate for your network settings. Although it's definitely sleep/wake oriented this would be a good easy test:

This is like in the old days of manually deleting the plists, but a lot less messy but is doing the same thing essentially.

If that doesn't solve it a work-around is to hold down option-key, click WiFi, and do the diagnostics. The diagnostics will do a hardware reset on the Wi-Fi. 95% chance this will get it working again, but would be required every time. So it's not a great solution, only a workaround.

The other work-around, also not a solution though, is to restart whenever waking from sleep mode closing the lid.

Another work-around, much less annoying than the other two, is to turn off Wifi and turn it on when coming out of sleep mode.

Any or all of these is likely to get it working even if they are less than perfect solutions.

Hello dtm39,

It sounds like you're experiencing some issues with sleep on your MacBook Air. You want the network to stay connected while the lid is closed, is that correct? We will be happy to help.

Let's begin by checking your Energy Saver preferences. Specifically, we want to ensure the "Wake for network access" is turned on.

This article can show you how to access that: Learn how to use the energy-saving features of your Mac.

Please have a look, and let us know if this helps.
