I have not been able to get a straight answer . . . . Does DS-940DW portable scanner work with mac OS 10.15 Catalina or not? Will very much appreciate any help that you can provide.

Well never heard of your Brother scanner until about two minutes ago, then after searching on line
I found this in about 30 seconds, click on the link below.

Make sure it is set for Catalina 10.15, download the Driver, and any other Utilities may want, there is also
a firmware update too.
If you want to know if it works with Catalina you might get better clarification from Brother directly
but as you can see they provide a driver for it, so you think it would.
