Advice about upgrading to High Sierra

I have a mid-2011 27" iMac running 10.12.6; Intel i5, 8 GB RAM, 1 TB HDD. Of the software installed, I have all MS Office apps via MS Office 365. The system runs smoothly in spite of the standard 1 TB HDD. I don't use Safari, Messaging or Mail apps. I suspect there's a downside for Sierra when it comes to updates for Chrome, MS Office apps etc. Etre check shows its performing as it should.

Does it make sense to upgrade to 10.13.6 and if so, will I lose the MS Office apps (Word, Excel, Power Point, etc) once I make a back up using Time Capsule? I ask since I haven't updated the OS in years and when I did, there were no third party programs installed. Thanks

Very little changed from Sierra to High Sierra, some gains, some losses, both minor.

I think you'll be shocked by this... Look into the Free LibreOffice, it handles MS Office files…

Every body can use another backup, get an external drove, clone 10.12.6 to it, then upgrade the external drive to 10.13.6, you can boot from either.

I appreciate the information which confirms what I've found elsewhere. As to Libre Office, I already have MS Office apps, so not sure why I'd need to add it, nor am I familiar with cloning, booting from an external drive etc. Seems the old adage, 'if it ain't broke, don't fix it' may apply where High Sierra is concerned. Thanks much.
