AirPods not able to Pause videos on media

My AirPods are pretty new and, I haven't had problems with it. Just this week, I noticed that by double-tapping Play/Pause on YouTube or Netflix wasn't pausing the video/movie on either my MacBook or iPhone. I would continually double-tap it the same way I have done since I got them, and it still wouldn't pause the video but only play it. I have reset and set up twice now, and the problem still occurs after re-cleaning it too. I've also seen other people have this problem but haven't seen a solution.

Can someone help me or is this a matter of a bug update?

Hi SnoopyGoldberg,

We understand the tap functions on your AirPods aren't working. We're happy to help.

We'd first recommend checking your AirPod settings to make sure the Play/Pause option is currently set up for one of the AirPods. You can find the steps to check that here: Adjust the settings of your AirPods

You also mentioned issues with third party applications, we'd want to test with a built in application to see if the issue is coming from the AirPods, or just those third party apps. Go in to the Music app and play something then try using the double-tap on an AirPod to see if it Plays/Pauses the song.

If the play/pause function works fine in the Music app, then that will let us know the sensors on the AirPods are working properly and the issue is with the third party apps you're using. If that's the case we'd recommend reaching out to their support to see if their applications currently support the playback control features on AirPods.

We hope this helps. Take care!

Hi Joseph,

The double-tap for Play/Pause works with music apps like Spotify. The reason I was asking this was because I've never had this happen before with Netflix and such, so I wasn't sure if perhaps this was on my end. Thank you for letting me know since I started to worry that my AirPods might be damaged, and I will check in with the other's support line and see if they can fix this.

Thanks again! 👏
