I tried resetting via itune's however, during initialization, it says the iphone is still connected to my sister's account. The problem now is my sister died few months back, so i am stuck with the reset. Appreciate any help so the iphone can be useful again.

First of all, sorry for your loss.
The only way to reset the iPhone is by contacting AppleCare to reset the phone, but AppleCare will enquire some personal details, relationship with the owner, etc. You also need to get the Proof of Purchase of the iPhone to prove that the iPhone wasn't stolen. You also need to prove that the owner status & prove your relationship with her. It might sounds troubling, but this is Apple policy to avoid any unwanted security/personal info breach.

Thank you for your immediate reply. I think i will be able to provide all the details you mentioned EXCEPT for the proof of purchase. In my mind, i think if the unit was stolen, my sister would have the same problem i am having encountered now. But anyway, i will go to the AppleCare and bring with me the documents.
