Easy way to take pictures and send them through Mac

I have at least seven cameras, but I use them so infrequently--once or twice a year--that I usually avoid trying to take a picture to send through my Mac, simply because I don't remember what to do. There is one exception: Photo Booth. I sometimes take pictures with Photo Booth. It's simple enough, even for me, but the results are unsatisfactory. Say, I want to copy an LP. Yes, I can do it, but the results are just not very good. Anyway, I now want to send a picture of a little gadget, but I want to produce a decent picture. Are there now gadgets, or apps, or ??? that make picture taking and transmission easy.?

Do you have an iPhone? If so, that would be your easiest method. Also, if any of your cameras uses an SD card, get an SD card reader that plugs into your Mac. That's the easiest way to transfer from a camera.

What does copying an LP have to do with photos? To copy an LP, you'd need a turntable that could digitize the LP and you'd be using the Music app (or iTunes, depending on which operating system you're using).

I think that Privacy setting is to access the camera inside your computer, not an external one.

The camera card can be read through a card reader, either an external one or one built into your computer if it has one. You can also connect the camera directly to your Mac, either through a USB cable, or wirelessly (if the camera has that feature).

One way or another, once you connect the camera card or the camera itself to your Mac, you can open Photos and IMPORT the photos from the camera or camera card, or you open Image Capture and import the photos.

When the card is inserted into the card reader the card is mounted on the Desktop and will look like this:

Photos may open automatically when it's mounted but it will depend on how you have it set up.

The photos will be in one of the folder on the card. For a Panasonic camera it'll be the DCIM folder;

You can drag the image files from the card to wherever you'd like.

I have now ordered a SD-card reader, two of them, in fact, but I MAY have found an even easier way. Is this a way to short-cut the process? It looks to me as if it makes it possible to upload a picture directly into my iMac from a camera with one click.

  1. On your Mac, choose Apple menu  > System Preferences, click Security & Privacy, then click Privacy.
  2. Select Camera.
  3. Select the tickbox next to an app to allow it to access your camera.

To me, taking a picture is a way of copying something, but now that I've learned how some interpret the phrase, I'll be more careful in the future. At least, I've not been canceled. Anyway, SD card reader sounds good to me. I think I even once bought one. It's probably still here somewhere in my collection of forgotten or abandoned gadgets. This time I'll put a label on it so I can remember what it is and it's for. That may be the best idea I've had in ages. Thanks for your input.

How about this one? SD Card Reader USB 3.0 Card Hub Adapter 5Gbps Read 4 Cards Simultaneously CF, CFI, TF, SDXC, SDHC, SD, MMC, Micro SDXC, Micro SD, Micro SDHC, MS, UHS-I for Windows, Mac, Linux

I left off the manufacturer. because I thought that naming brands might be against he rules here. Anyway, I am concerned about that "UHS-1 for" part. Does that mean that it has only limited usefulness for Macs? Would a better SD card reader need that phrase? In other words, if this reader handles UHS-1, is that enough for my Mac? Is this the best possible for my Mac? No I don't know what UHS-1 is, obviously.

Well, I'll be. Thanks. You're right. I never knew that. No matter, I've already ordered two SD-Card readers. However, since you brought it up, I notice that I can only insert the card about halfway. Is that okay?

I might add that this is turning out to be more difficult than I had expected. I won't go into all of the details, but I spent several hours today trying to upload a few photos from my Nikon camera into my iMac. Unfortunately, after spending at least an hour with a Nikon technician, I had to call it a day. (we both decided that it would be best to wait for the new cable and SD-Card readers that I have ordered before wasting any more time.

Now I'm going to see if I have better luck with some of my other cameras. I still have Canon, Sony, and Samsung cameras to check out. It should be an educational experience.

I received the two card readers, each with three different sized slots, but none of my SD cards can be inserted into them. Aren't all SD card readers the same? Anyway, I found an old SD card reader that I now recognized for what it was, a card reader. Here's my first question: When I insert the card reader into the back of my iMac, where do the files go? Aren't they downloaded automatically? If so, where in my iMac should I look for them?

Thanks for your help. I was actually doubtful that you would answer, because I was asking such basic stuff, stuff that would make most experienced computer owners shake their heads in disbelief. Thanks for indulging me. The only other thing I can say at this point is that I'll try again. Nothing appeared on my desktop on my earlier tries.

I've ordered some new SD cards. Maybe with new cards, a new cable, and new card-readers, I'll get better results.; however, I just cannot understand why none of the SD cards I have can be inserted into two new and one older CD card reader. The slots look the same, but only an older, simpler, and cheaper SD reader will accept my SD cards. That's a puzzler. I tried to force one card into one of my new readers, but that seems to have damaged the card.
