can you download and use normal apps on a MacBook Pro like you can on an iPad/iPhone??
You can not use iOS apps on your Mac. You can use apps made for MacOS.

iOS is the operating system used on mobile devices (iPhones, iPads, etc.)
MacOS is the operating system for laptops and desktops.
There are a lot of “tie-ins” between the two systems, but they are entirely different and distinct computing environments.
