Using CarPlay with a USB hub

Can I use a USB hub between my iPhone and car? I'm not asking about power or USB speed issues, I'm asking about functionality (there's a host/device flip protocol thing that happens with CarPlay). I'm also not worried about the other device on the hub or speculation. I just want to know if I can plug an iPhone into a hub, and then plug the hub into the car, and still have CarPlay function correctly.

Greetings lcotten,

We understand that you want to use a USB hub in conjunction with CarPlay, and we'd like to help. To begin, follow the steps listed in these resources to ensure your connections are in place properly:

For more specific details about the hub you want to use, and your vehicle, you'll want to contact those respective manufacturers directly.

Take care.

Are you saying that some standard USB hubs will work and some hubs won't? Is there a specific defined USB hub feature or protocol that needs to be supported that I can look for? Very few if any USB hubs are going to explicitly say "Apple CarPlay Compatible".

On the other hand, is this a case of "no it doesn't work" unless someone makes a very specific CarPlay hub just for this purpose. I'm asking very specific questions to avoid very generic answers. Thank You.
