I can see my device on a Nat'l Forest map in 'Find my iPhone' - how do I get the coordinates of the phone's position?

I was hiking in the mountains and lost my phone. Find my iPhone got me within a quarter mile. I can see the icon for my phone on a Nat'l Forest map but it's not getting me close enough. how do I get the latitude and longitude coordinates of the phone's position?

It is likely that the dot on your map is the best estimate of location you will ever get. However, you can try another gambit. On Find My ask for routing, select Transit and you should see a link for "View Routing Apps". Try finding the phone by Google Maps or another mapping service. You might get lucky.

If your battery still has life in it, go out with as many friends as you can muster, fan out from the dot on your map, and tell Find My to make your lost phone squawk. One of your friends might just hear the crying phone. You might get lucky.

iPhone Locations:

iPhone location is detected by cell towers - so, if none are close by - it is probably revealing it in the last location it was detected.

I was out on a hiking trail. I counted the number of curves on the mountain road up to area. It's a 45 minute drive and I didn't ask friends to join me. Maybe I should - with Covid we would take separate cars. Anyway, how do I look on Google maps for my phone? And how do I 'find my iphone' ie, look on Google maps for a lost phone? Thank you so much for answering my question!!

You can't directly interrogate via Google Maps. All you can do is to use the "View Routing Apps", as described above. Other mapping software installed on your phone will pop up as selections. My hope for you is that Google has done a better job than Apple in mapping the trails in the forest, and that this will help you towards the red dot on your map.
