Apple mail with AOL

I have two AOL email accounts, which are, together with my other email accounts, all consolidated under the Apple mail application on all the devices I use (MacBook Air, iPhone 10, iPad). I'm now receiving warnings from AOL that Apple Mail client is an "old" application and shortly AOL email will not work with it. These are genuine because I've engaged in a discussion with AOL customer service (that was useless) about how to fix this. They say I need to enter a password generated by them which (I assume) replaces the current password I use. When I tried this the AOL email stopped working altogether. The CS person at AOL was no help at all and didn't offer any concrete help. Anyone come across the same or similar problem and found a fix?

Although I am not an expert on such problems, I've read here that keychain sometimes keeps using old passwords on Mail. So, you might try cleaning out any old Mail passwords there and see what happens. Good luck

Hi Ronasara, thanks for this but it really is. Different issue. If you use AOL email within the Apple mail environment, you will receive an email from AOL saying that Apples email client is “an old application” and you now need to change the way you work with AOL Mail. This email includes links to instructions that do not work and are not even close to how Apple mail client works. So then you end up with AOL mail not working! Very frustrating!!!! Moreover to define Apple email client as “old” seems odd - my software is completely up to date so cannot be called OLD

For what it's worth, the other day I read a similar posting from someone who wrote that he was also having major problems with AOL and I believe that he also was using Apple's Mail app. I don't know what ultimately happened, though. Personally,I never cared for the Mail app. I have been happy with Thunderbird. I guess it's all a matter of what we get used to. I'm sorry, I don't have anything else to offer. Maybe someone else will. Good luck to you.
