FileVault Encryption Taking Forever

So I got my MacBook Pro (2017) a few days ago, and since I finished starting it up, it’s been encrypting data and barely seems to make any process through the days. It always has the same amount of time remaining and the blue progress bar has been pretty much the same for the last few days. This is getting extremely annoying because I need to update it to the newest software so I can download software for school and can’t while it’s encrypting. It’s also not an option to cancel the encryption. If anyone has any advice, please let me know.
