I wish to create a ringtone from a song I purchased from iTunes in 2006. The problem is this m4p is a protected AAC audio file. Trying to create the ringtone the usual way returns an error that the file cannot be converted because it is protected. Is there anyway to get around this?
Burn the track to an audio CD and rip back as an unprotected AAC from which to make the ringtone. Or for $1.29, consider buying a new unprotected version.

Thanks for your help. I decided to download another song form iTunes and create the 40 second m4r. This file works fine as a ringtone. The problem is the file does not show as a choice for a text tone. Which was initially what I wanted to use it for. Any suggestions?
