Sluggish after software update

I did a software update recently and now my iMac is very sluggish. Apps don't load and I'm stuck with the whirling beachball of death. I have to force quit and try to run it again. I've tried deleting apps and reloading them only to get stuck in that loop of not being able to download them. Anyone else?

Since new, opening apps has been very very slow. Observing the hypnosis circle :) for 30-80 seconds and it happens to all apps, regardless. Could be Safari, MS Word, Spotify, Keynote, Pictures even the settings app, or actually any app. (But, the more complex the app is the longer it takes) Important: Once app has launched and opened; writing, editing, searches, view pics etc is as speedy as expected from a new Mac system. Apps crash when launching I've recently been having this problem of various unrelated apps crashing while launching. It's so bad I have the Force Quit window permanently open so I can quit the app when it turns red. The only thing that helps a bit is to reset the PRAM during a restart (opt-cmd-p-r), but that's only temporary as these apps begin to crash again. Apps that so far regularly crash constantly: Finder (!) Pages Spark Mail Any tips or troubleshooting advice would be greatly appreciated. Tod iMac 27" 2019 macOS Monterey

Please determine if the same problems occur in "Safe Mode": Use safe mode to isolate issues with your Mac.
