Firmware Partitions

Hi! I've been trying to download High Sierra (using a flashdrive w/ the update on it, 32GB) to a 2010 MacBook Pro in recovery. when i try to click the drive, it says that i can't install this volume because the computer is missing a firmware partition, does anyone know how to fix this?

These are the specs to the computer. When I go to software updates in the app store it just shows the incompatible app updates but no firmware updates. I don't have access to an external drive.

Unable to update to newer OS Hi, I have a Mac Pro "Trash bin" that has a third party OWC Aura SSD installed. The problem I now have is downloading newer versions of OS on the computer. The OWC Aura SSD is in MacOS Journaled format, which was required to even download Sierra through internet recovery because the Mac had its OS completely erased. Now im not able to download anything above Sierra, when im for example trying to download High Sierra or Mojave the HDD is greyed out with the message "you may not install to this volume because the computer is missing a firmware partition". I read that this occurs becuase the HDD is required to be in APFS-format to be able to download the OS. Ive tried to create another partition and making it to APFS-format but that is not an option since Sierra does not seem to support APFS. Time Machine backup does not work either, so now im in a complete dead end. Anyone here with more experience with Apple OS than me who can help me find a solution? Kind regards, Artin

Missing firmware partition Hello what could be the cause of a missing firmware partition when it comes to software update on my mac mid 2012 I was running macOs catalina on my mac and the os just stopped working and I had to start from Internet recovery but now I can't update the mac from mountain lion to other os tried some solutions online but didn't workout

Your bootable device was created on this or another Mac with createinstallmedia, correct?

Wipe the target volume, select GUID/GPT partitioning, and HFS+ file system, and try again?
