I have sold my MacBook 2019 and its still registered with Apple ID

I have sold a water damaged MacBook 2019, I was told it cannot be repaired by the computer shop. I sold it as spares only. The person who purchased it seems to want to try and fix it, but says its still registered to my Apple ID.

I have logged on to my Apple ID and its not under my managed devices, can anyone help explain why Apple store are saying its still registered with my Apple ID and how do I remove it properly? The MacBook obviously will not turn on.

gandchill,

Thank you for letting us know. Before we move forward, we just want to make sure we're completely clear on the situation.

Can you confirm if the current owner is running into an error regarding Activation Lock at this time? If so, please complete the steps outlined under the "If the previous owner isn't with you" part of the below link to turn Activation Lock off on the Mac:

Turn off Activation Lock

Thanks!

Hi gandchill,

It sounds like a device you sold may still be associate with your Apple ID, is that right? We'd be happy to provide some information.

Just to make sure we're on the same page, can you confirm if you used the steps outlined on the following page to see if your Apple ID is still signed in on that MacBook?

Check your Apple ID device list to see where you're signed in

Please note that if you're still signed in with your Apple ID on that device, it might reappear on your account page the next time the device connects to the Internet. To permanently remove a device, please go through the exact steps outlined under the "Permanently remove a device from your account page" part of the above link.

If the current owner of the Mac is seeing a message about Activation Lock, please follow the steps in the second part of the "Turn off Activation Lock before you send your Mac in for service, sell it, or give it away" section in the below link:

Take care!
