Apple Pencil Erasing - Pixel Level

“Issue with erasing with new Apple Pencil 

I have a 2018 iPad Pro 12.9 with the new Apple Pencil. The pencil works great with pretty much everything but erasing. With my last Apple Pencil, I was able to erase part of a drawing/word/etc instead of the whole thing. I have tried with notability as well as the iPad notes app, and it does the same thing on both. I have hard reset my iPad, unpaired and repaired the Apple Pencil and it does the same thing.

Any idea what I doing wrong?’
