Apple Pencil 2 missing double tap options

I have an 11” IPad Pro 3rd gen with Apple Pencil 2. IOS 15.7.

When I go to settings to check or change the pencil settings, I don’t have any options to do so. I just get something about scribble. Double tap doesn’t work on the pencil.

I’ve restarted, rebooted, disconnected and everything else that has been suggested to no avail. What’s next.

iPad Pro, iPadOS 15

Authentic pencil, bought with iPad at an Apple Store Garosugil, worked fine for years, after latest iPadOS update double tap settings are gone.

Update: Bluetooth was off. Apparently it matters. Just turn on Bluetooth and relaunch settings.

I had bought it on ebay - red flag number 1.

I noticed a small red LED on the pencil that isn’t normal on the real product.

Noticing that I was missing settings, and the icon that pops up when charging the pencil was different than it should be. Lookup a youtube video of someone placing the pencil to charge and see if the same charging icon pops up on your ipad. The fake one had a massive image of an apple pencil cover 1/6 of my screen, the real one has tiny a little battery icon pop up.

Nothing in my reply is factually incorrect. If Bluetooth is disabled from iPad settings (Settings > Bluetooth > Bluetooth - set to OFF), the Pencil cannot interact with iPad.

If instead you are “turning-off” Bluetooth from the Control Centre with a simple tap, you are not disabling Bluetooth - but are only disconnecting ancillary Bluetooth devices; in this state, both your iPad Bluetooth radio remains active. In this state, the iPad remains able to communicate with the Pencil via Bluetooth - and the Pencil interact with the iPad.

In summary, you are not completely disabling Bluetooth from the Control Centre.

What I meant is when the icon is white in Control Center, you can fully use the Pencil, but you cannot edit full Pencil settings.

If you claim turning Bluetooth on in Settings is enough to edit Pencil settings, then you are still wrong. Turning Bluetooth on is not enough to edit full Pencil settings—the icon in Control Center must also be blue. Otherwise you can use the Pencil, but not edit its full settings.

Except you cannot edit Pencil’s settings. That’s the counter-intuitive part.

LotusPilot, I think you are repeating the exact fix I outlined in my original message (to turn on Bluetooth to gain access to settings) while adding factually incorrect information to it.

Without Bluetooth, a genuine Apple Pencil is able to interact with iPad just fine. You can write and draw and use double-tap. The only thing missing with Bluetooth off is Pencil’s extended preferences.
