Mail is not connecting to Comcast email
I cannot change my Comcast email password on the Mail app on my Mac. Also, Mail is downloading thousands of old emails going back to 2017.
iMac 21.5″, macOS 10.14

How to Change Comcast Password:
So, have you changed you Comcast Password? If so, yet it is still coming through, either it is a security issue in the macOS, or you changed it using a site other than Xfinity/Comcast (a phishing site). So, reset the password here.
Reset your Xfinity Password:
Go Here: Reset Your Xfinity Password - Xfinity
Remove the accounts from Mail to stop it all from coming in, and for all to be deleted.

Open Keychain Access in Utilities, then either check the Password under that item, change it, or delete it and start over.
Enter the part after the @sign in the search bar.
You may have duplicate or more entries in Keychain Access.
If using a browser to login via WebMail works it's not Name or Password, but likely old passwords interfering.
There''ll be at least 2 entries, maybe more.
The trouble is that Mac Mail almost always chooses the old Passwords if you don't change or get rid of the old ones.
Restart to clear some caches.
The big bugaboo with Mail is finding the keychain for any auto setup Mail accounts, if IMAP it usually involves deleting the account & setting it up again to fix it.
Thanks for responding. Yes, I received an email from Xfinity telling me I had to change my password because of some security issue. It didn't occur to me, but it may have been a phishing site. Anyway I changed my password on my Mac, but when I went to change it on the Apple Mail app, my iPhone and my iPad, I couldn't change it to match the new one I'd chosen. So, I went back (this time to the Xfinity site) and changed the password a couple of times, ultimately to my original password. My email then worked on my iPhone and iPad, but the Apple Mail app has gone nuts and I don't seem to be able to fix that mess. I'll try removing the accounts from Mail and let you know how it goes. Thanks for your help.
Huzzah! That seems to have worked! Thank you so much; please stay safe and well.
You are welcome.
