Comcast Mail

Does anyone with El Capitan or earlier OSX been able to have a Comcast mail account work? I have had to use Webmail. There is no amount of suggestions in this forum that work as far as I know that work.

I have 3 computers that have El Capitan, all stopped working for Comcast

this year.

Yahoo App password…

Generate and manage third-party app passwords

Some older, third-party email apps (that do not use our Yahoo branded sign in page) require you to enter a single password for login credentials. To access your Yahoo Mail account on these apps, you'll need to generate and use an app password. An app password is a long, randomly generated code that gives a non-Yahoo app permission to access your Yahoo account. You’ll only need to provide this code once to sign in to your third-party email app.

Using app passwords with apps that don't support two-step verification (microsoft.com)

What about application passwords? Will that keep working?

If application passwords are being used for MFA (Multi Factor Authentication) along with basic auth as another auth mechanism, then when basic authentication is disabled, app passwords used for MFA will stop working too.

Where can I find more information?

There are several resources that we wanted to provide here as additional reading:

Using apple mail when adding an account I get; "cannot verify account name or password". I have tried every suggestion such as safe mode or deleting and re-entering the account. Taking account off-line to on-line.

I see so many Comcast mail issues on the internet, but no definitive cures. I have 2 Catalina computers that do not have this issue.

About 2 to 3 months ago Comcast sent out an email asking users to send a test message to their link they provided to make sure our email was compatible with their new email security features. I was away from home at the time so could only test Ventura and Catalina, they both passed the test. About a month after that Comcast email, Apple mail stopped working.

I dont want to use a different email client, if I had to do that, I might as well just use webmail, this is OK but not convenient.

I have two thoughts to share. I would first contact Comcast for help in resolving the issue. Second, Mail seems to have a lot of issues posted on this forum. I stopped using Mail years ago. That's why I suggested Thunderbird which I have never had any issues with. It's worth a try and It has features Mail does not have.

I referenced an email that was sent awhile back. here it is and is probably why none has come up with a solution.

Keeping you connectedYour email application or device needs an update

To help keep your data safe, we have discontinued the use of outdated security protocols. Some older devices, operating systems, and email applications don't support the newer security protocols that we rely on to help protect data in transit, including anything you send through your Comcast.net email.

We've noticed that one of the email applications or devices you're using to access your Comcast.net email is out of date and is putting your data at risk. To check if a specific email application or device meets our criteria, use it to send a test email to xfinity-tls-test@alerts.xfinity.com

If your device or email application is not updated immediately, you will only be able to access your Comcast.net email by logging into connect.xfinity.comthrough an internet browser.

Your email security is important to us. Thanks for helping us protect your data.
