I cannot send messages on my iMac15,1, and cannot sign out of iCloud to try and fix it.

Hello.

I have tried updating to Big Sur on a couple of occasions, but as I've had issues doing so I've had to restore backups.

After doing this a few times, I've started having this issue where I cannot send messages from my computer. I hear the sound to say I sent it, but I don't get a delivered indicator. I have tried restoring again, but no luck. I've also tried signing out of iMessage and back in, still no luck. I'd like to sign out and back in from iCloud, but even that won't work. Upon me clicking to keep a copy of my content, it just redirects me to the iCloud page of my Apple ID preferences, without signing me out of anything.

Could I possibly have some help with this? It's starting, sadly, to get rather annoying.

IMac15,1, macOS Catalina 10.15.6.

iMac 27″ 5K, macOS 10.15

It sounds like you're having some trouble signing out of iCloud and sending Messages on your Mac. We can understand wanting to get that resolved. We want to help.


When signing out of iCloud, you can choose not to keep a copy of your content if you plan to sign back in, as the data stored in iCloud will be available again once you sign back into your account.


Regarding the issue you're seeing with Messages, we'd recommend trying the steps in this article: If you can’t send or receive messages on your Mac

Thanks very much for the reply. The signing out of iCloud still doesn't work. Even when choosing not to keep a copy, nothing happens. It just takes me back to iCloud, where there is no sign out button. I tried removing it from appleid.apple.com, but even that just told me that I had a problem with the account and needed to sign in again, but it didn't fully sign me out (I can provide screen shots if necessary.)

I tried most of the steps in the article, though I can take another look.

Thanks very much for the response. Unfortunately however, I am blind and so must use voiceover. After research, I've heard that booting in safe mode disables sound, and so voiceover cannot work. I don't have a braille display, or the money for one either.

I could try rolling back to an earlier backup and then sinking messages from iCloud and seeing how that does, but I'm really unsure as to whether that's advisable.
