My icloud email is showing up as my contact info instead of my phone number

I just recently switched providers from verizon to tmobile. I originally had an iphone 7 and backed it up like i was supposed to and then synced everything over to the new iphone 11 I now have. When I try to text people, it shows up as my email from my icloud account and not my number. I went into my messages settings and it says that my number is verifying, but never does. I reset my network settings and that didnt help. I dont know what else to do because when i call tmobile support i was on hold for over an hour for what was supposed to only be a 10 minute wait. Figured i’d try apple support

Well, this isn’t Apple support, it’s a user-to-user technical support forum. You can contact Apple support using the link at the top of this screen.

But first, a couple of things to check. Did your phone number change? If it did go to Settings/Phone and make sure “My Number" is correct there.

Next go to Settings/Messages, tap on Send & Receive and verify that your phone number is checked and is correct. If it is tap on your Apple ID and log out. Then restart your phone—>Restart your iPhone - Apple Support, go back into Settings/Messages and log in and set it up again.

I’ve also seen a suggestion from Apple to change your Apple ID password, as this forces everything to reset. See—>Change your Apple ID password - Apple Support. This is kind of a pain, because you have to then go change it everywhere you log in to your Apple ID, so it isn’t the first thing to try.
