FCPX 10.4.9 update and suddenly unusably slow

I updated my FCPX software to the most recent update and suddenly it is unusable. It's incredibly slow, and I can't figure it out. I have restarted my laptop several times, deleted FCPX and reinstalled it. Nothing seems to work.

Anyone experiencing similar issues? Any advice on how to fix the issue?

Cheers

I see that you have Color Finale. It is up to date?

Any other plugins, particularly any from CoreMelt? There is a known issue where CoreMelt plugins need to be uninstalled and reinstalled to work in 10.4.9.

Also, do you need to have torrent software running?

I see also that you have NTFS software from Paragon. Is it up to date?

As it turns out. Just to keep things in perspective . :)

  1. What caused the problem?

The only thing that had changed = The previous FCPX update.

What fixed the problem? The newest FCPX update.

2nd Issue: So, when are the 3rd party entities informed of updates and how fast is their turnaround of compatible updates? ...an entire debate in itself.

The solution for the pro user is to make sure that our 3rd party entities are ready for the new version before we update FCPX.

Unfortunately, it is that simple and we have to get off this "update addiction train". ;) Not sure if I can myself...

Just had this issue again and I've reseted my preferences, installed updated version of these plugins. Sadly it's still the same...

It happens when I modify anything in the timeline causing a need to render.

Although I've forgot to mention it is around the time I started testing the new Panasonic S5 and it only happens on S5 footages. I'm not sure what cause the performance different, I had worked with 10-bit H265 from other cameras without issue; the only different from S5 files is 4:2:2 which I don't think it should make such performance different?

After I updated Catalina with the supplemental update, and Final Cut Pro to 10.4.9, it now refuses to stay open longer than 1 minute (after it updated all the library files). When trying to close it nicely when it does open, it freezes and I have to force quit. Endless loop. I think it's an Apple bug. I'm using a Mac Pro 2019, great hardware - pathetic software I guess. Hope Apple fixes soon.

I ran the report, nothing seems to be flagged? Certainly not grabbing my attention

This is the same story with me. I do a few minutes of work and then rendering kicks in and the computer becomes incredibly slow until it stops. Never happened before and the laptop isn't even a year old with very little running on it. I can't help but think it's an issue with the update considering it only started happening, after the update.

I am getting the uncomfortable impression that FCPX 10.4.9 itself is behaving radically differently in relationship, whether with hardware, media or other apps I don't yet know in comparison with 10.4.8. So much so I would like to regress to the old FCPX. I have some big libraries (no media in situ) which will need remaking through XML I assume. Does anyone know how successful that route might be?
