Using two external displays

I'm using the MacBook 2019 16" and I bought an adapter with a DisplayPort and hdmi port two hook up two ASUS ProArt monitors, whenever I close the MacBook both monitors just mirror each other. When I navigate to display settings the "arrangement" tab is missing and whenever I click on detect displays it doesn't do anything.

MacBook Pro 2021 with Apple M1 Pro connection to 2 external monitors I have a MacBook Pro 2021 with Apple M1 Pro chip. I use an adapter with two HDMI ports to connect two monitors. I only get 2 duplicate screens. Displays in "system preference" can only recognize one monitor. What should I do to connect 2 external monitors?

MacBook Air - M1 Chip/2020 Im trying to set up two external monitors - two HP/24mn monitors - the display rotates between the two monitors (when the computer goes to sleep) - using one Apple adapter and one Belkin USB-C adapter - I've checked the cables/restarted/unplugged etc. - again, the display appears on one monitor but not both - when the computer goes to sleep the display jumps monitors - how can I get the display to show on both?

You can't run two display on one Thunderbolt port unless they are ThunderBolt displays.
