I Use Inkscape, when I go to open file, I get list of files by name>directory>size>date then a small thumbnail.

my question is how do I show only thumbnails as I need to be able to see and browse all quickly so far this Mac has not impressed me and everyone said this was the best to have.

Looks like inkscape rolled their own open dialog box. Bad. Not in keeping with macOS human factors rules. Half baked conversion to macOS. I don't run catalina, so apple's open dialog may have changed, but I hope not.

You can just go into finder and double click on the file you want to open. You can drag the file icon to the app icon in the doc and drop. You can drop the file on the open app or the apps open window. These three ways may not work with all apps.
