Why do I have to keep resetting my SMC?

About three weeks ago my computer stopped charging. I tried all of the remedies I could find online but nothing worked. My computer is out of warranty so I took it to a certified apple repair technician. He said that he had to repair the power management IC.

I have had my computer back for just about two weeks now but I am running into a new problem. Randomly my laptop will lose battery life while connected to power. When I click on the battery it shows the lightning bolt charging symbol but it says that it is not charging. If I rest the SMC it fixes the problem but then a few days later it happens again.

I'm a little angry at this considering I just spent $400 two weeks ago to repair a different charging issue. What could be causing this?

MacBook Pro 13″, macOS 10.15

Unplug the charger from the electrical outlet for a minute to reset the internal circuitry of the power adapter.

If you have a touchbar MBPro, then try connecting the charger to a USB-C port on the other side of the laptop to see if it has the same issue. If it works on one side, but not the other side, then the I/O Board is bad, otherwise it may be a Logic Board or Battery issue.

Like @Kappy mentions the Logic Board has a 90 part warranty on it so you need to take the laptop back to have it examined.
