Installing 1TB SSD into mid 2011 iMac. Do i still need the cable for fans?

That pretty much says it all.

Will changing the factory fitted 500GB HDD to an SSD affect the fans speed as it did in my previous 2011 model?

It's a Crucial SSD in a 'Newer Tech' cradle enclosure.

Anyone foresee any problems with that?

Already have 256SSD installed behind optical drive.

My question is do I still need these newer sensor cables and sensor for the current, original drive replacement?

Can I remove the HD completely from my Fusion drive 2012 27" iMac? I have a 1TB Fusion Drive in my 2012 27" iMac. The drive is loud and slow and I would be happy to just use the 128GB PCIe SSD storage. Can I simply disconnect the HD and remove it (also helping thermals)? Or is the system going to run fans at 100% because there is no HD thermal sensor anymore? Is there a way to get around this? Like get rid of the HD and leave the sensor? Or do I need to get an SSD adapter for the 3.5 drive and put in some disk with a sensor? Thanks

MC309LL/A 2011 iMac SSD upgrade question I just acquired this iMac. MC309LL/A Mid 2011. i5 2400s 2.5 GHz 8GB Ram 10.13.6. I’m eventually going to upgrade to a solid-state drive. Since this is an older Mac, will I see a lot of difference between the mercury extreme 6G versus The Electra 6G, for Electra 3G? 2 . I am seeing kits with drive sleds, but when I watched OWC‘s installation video they used double sided tape to secure the drive. Can I get away with the drive power cable and drive cable if I’m just replacing the drive? This is going to be a third computer. I may equip it with ProTools and Reason. I may even do a little video editing but I don’t plan to push this iMac too hard. Thanks in advance for your advice. Cheers!

It is still an Intel based Mac and yes you need the cable.

Yes, you will still need the cable with the in-line thermal sensor.

Getting this moved the the iMac forums where someone will actually see your question. The forum section you found is, in spite of its non-intuitive label, for Apple hardware made before 1998.

I did think 'older hardware' was incorrect but i saw no other option.

Apple does say that it's either 'Vintage' or 'obsolete'.
