External hard drive keeps disconnecting randomly from a new MacBook pro 2020

Just got a new MacBook pro 2020 and have purchased an external LaCie 5 tb hard drive to use for all my media storage. The drive keeps disconnecting randomly and it is impossible to keep transferring my files to it. This is a usb3 drive connecting directly to the MacBook.

I had purchased a WD 5 tb drive before the LaCie and kept doing the same. So i thought to try the ones offered by the Apple store thinking that they are made for the MacBook. Same thing, same story.

Does anybody has a solution to it? I think it has to do with the MacBook or the iOS settings in my computer. Or it is a bug with the usb3 software.

Reset SMC by following the directions applicable to your MacBook here ➔ How to Reset SMC. If that does not solve things then-
Reset NVRAM/PRAM by following the directions applicable to your MacBook here ➔ How to Reset NVRAM/PRAM.

See if one of the above resolves the issue. If not then try another cable. If nothing works then use your 2020 MacBook Pro warranty to have Apple diagnose the issue with the port(s).
