Option to disable saving message attachments to iCloud?

I love having all my messages backed up. Its great because when my device die, my new device will have 10 years of messages already saved on my phone.

The problem is, all these messages are tied to photos and videos. These get bigger every year, even with all the settings to reduce their size. And while Apple has given options to mitigate this issue, they don't work very well. I currently save out the ones I want to keep, and go through and manually delete 1000's of images and videos every year or so, one by one.

What I would like, is an option in iCloud somewhere, to disable uploading message attachments (images and video) to the Cloud — something like this, added to the iCloud settings. I appreciate that Apple added a method to remove batches in different ways, but I would much rather stop it at the source.

I'm assuming one of the reasons Apple hasn't implemented something like this, is because they want to drive people to buy their paid iCloud subscription. But if this is the only reason, then that is some dark pattern kind of bait and switch happening.

I think this would be a pretty simple way to do it, below. There might be a better more elegant way, but this would save me a lot of headache:
