Downgrading an FCPx 10.4.8 Library

Hi There,

I have a library created in FCPx 10.4.8. The library needs to be shared in a late 2011 MacBook Pro which can host only upto FCPx 10.4.5. A couleague of mine needs to work on that library in an older machine.

Hence the library of FCPx 10.4.8 needs to be downgraded to FCPx 10.4.5.

Is there any possible way to do this?

Thanks in advance.

Not directly, but it may work via XML.

Try this: select the library in the browser sidebar, and do File->Export XML...

Choose the lowest of the two versions offered (I think it will be 1.7). This is a very small text file.

Send that XML file to your colleague.

If all goes well, on their side doing File->Import->XML

and selecting the file you sent there should be all the library structure intact (but no media; they will all appear offline, since the XML does not carry any media)

If this works, all it takes now is sending the media and relinking.

I was able to import the XML after making changes in that line and a few others.

For some reason, in the date attribute of each project, an invalid character (ASCII code 08) has crept in.

By removing it, I was able to import with just a few warnings.

I tried to post a link to the converted files, but it did not let me. I will try in a separate post.

Hi Luis,

Thanks for the directions.

The XML import is failing with the following error:

"The file "XXXXXXXXXv1.7.fcpxml could not be imported.

The XML document is not well formed. (Line 2746: invalid character in attribute value

Line 2746: attributes construct error

Line 2746: Couldn't find end of Start Tag project)

Is there any mistake I am doing?"

Thanks again.

Hi Luis,

I am not able to download the file from the shortURL that you have shared.

I have tried deleting the project which is mentioned in line 2746.

There may be problems because some projects have "Hindi - An Indian Language" Project names and some titles. I am trying to export and import only those projects which have english names.

In case you can alternatively share the xml that you had edited it will be great.

Thanks,

Try this:

1) Open the xml file in BBEdit. (BBEdit free version is what I have and it works great; another text editor may be used, but since we are going to enter a code in the search box this may not work the same way)

2) Press Command-F and make it so the search and replace window looks like this.

Make sure that Grep is checked, and that the replace box is empty, then click Replace All.

You should see a notification that some (7 or 8) replacements were made.

3) Save the file and try importing
