Hi, welcome to the Apple Users Community.


When you open Text Edit, have you checked the Open Recent from the File Menu?


Also if you can remember some a specific word used in the text within the document that would not be very common to any other document you have, use Spotlight to search the entire MacBook (This Mac) for those words. It will look within the text for that word and show all files it occurs within.
